Raffa, P.C. Achieves B Corporation Certification | News Release
Washington-Based Firm One of Few Local B Corps to Host Gathering of B Corps April 29th
Washington, D.C. — Raffa, P.C., the Washington-based accounting, technology and consulting firm, announced its certification as a B Corporation, one of only a handful in the Washington, D.C. area.
The nonprofit organization B Lab awarded Raffa this certification after rigorously analyzing the way Raffa conducts business and the firm’s impact on the community.  Since Raffa’s first day of operation in 1984, its staff has worked to fulfill the firm’s “Do More” commitment to positively impact our local communities and the world.
B Lab describes B Corps businesses: “By voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance, Certified B Corps are distinguishing themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.  B Corps create higher quality jobs and improve the quality of life in our communities.”
Raffa is among a select few companies awarded this honor.  B Lab has designated fewer than 1,000 corporations from 32 countries and 60 industries with the B Corp certification.  There are currently only 13 B Corps in the District.
B Lab uses a customized assessment for each B Corp certification, based on industry, location and size.  In order to become certified, the company must meet strict standards of social and environmental impact, accountability and transparency.  The company must score an 80 or higher on the B Lab scale to finally obtain B Corp certification.  Raffa received a score of 112.  The certification covers Governance, Workers, Community and Environment, and Raffa’s Governance and Community scores, specifically, topped global averages across all B Corps.
“After engaging dozens of businesses aspiring to enter the B Corp community, we found Raffa, P.C. to set a new high bar,” said Arthur Woods, Partner, Imperative.  “While the company was already doing meaningful work to serve the community, Raffa used this certification as a means of deepening their impact even more significantly; a true representation of their mission to do more.”
“Raffa is proud to be recognized as a Certified B Corporation. Since the beginning, Raffa’s mission and passion has been to be a catalyst for positive social impact.  Raffa’s calling to Do More is reflected in our advisory services to the nonprofit community and its partners,” said Thomas Raffa, CEO and Managing Partner of Raffa, P.C. “B Corp status aligns with our company purpose, and allows us to join like-minded businesses united in sustainability while creating an innovative and caring workplace.”
Raffa will host a B Corp Happy Hour on April 29th in Rockville, MD, giving local B Corps a chance to meet each other and offering others a chance to learn more about the certification. Representatives from B Lab and Imperative will attend.  Author Aaron Hurst will sign copies of his new book The Purpose Economy.
“Raffa is committed to the people we serve, the relationships we nurture, the individual and collective contributions of our staff, and the myriad of actions they take for the betterment of our community,” added Raffa.
By becoming a Certified B Corp, Raffa continues to serve the greater good for the world and helping toward one unifying goal: to redefine how success is measured in business. Learn more about Raffa becoming a B Corp here.
